The Russian banking system is characterized by significant territorial transformations, which have a certain character of providing banking services to economic entities. These differences are caused by a number of factors that are related to both external and internal conditions. The consequence of the influence of these factors is the uneven development of the Russian regions and their significant disproportions. The article deals with the aspects of regulation and supervision of commercial banks, as well as their impact on the quantitative indicators of banking institutions. A comparative analysis of the dynamics of the indicators of the entire banking system of the Russian Federation allowed us to identify the characteristic features that affect its stability, the analysis is based on the statistical data of the Bank of Russia. The main trends in the development of the Russian banking system are identified: the strengthening of the role of the state in relation to commercial banks, the concentration of credit institutions in the Central Federal District, and the centralization of management at the federal level.
