The specifics of cognitive impairment and severity of anxiety-depressive syndrome in patients with multiple sclerosis

The article presents an assessment of cognitive deficiency and severity of the anxiety-depressive syndrome in 33 patients with the diagnosis of "Multiple Sclerosis. Cerebro-spinal form." The author uses tests to evaluate their higher brain functions and levels of depression. The tests have revealed the anxiety-depressive symptoms of varying severity in the majority of patients regarded. Thus, female patients with the disease duration of more than 7 years demonstrated the most severe depressive symptoms. Most patients with this disorder have cognitive impairments of varying severity, mainly affecting the processes of memory, concentration and short-term memory. The study has also showed a correlation between the disease duration and indicators of cognitive deficiency in the negative dynamics.
