The article examines the impact of external sanctions on the functioning of one of the key domestic banks - Sberbank PJSC. This bank is included by the Bank of Russia in the list of systemically significant credit institutions, whose share is more than 70% of the assets of the banking sector of the Russian Federation. Consequently, the negative impact of external economic sanctions on the activities of this bank may negatively affect the work of the domestic banking sector as a whole. Based on the data that allow us to assess changes in the key performance indicators of Sberbank, we have shown that in the current new conditions, characterized by the concentration of a significant part of operations on the territory of the Russian Federation, the practical lack of the ability to borrow resources in foreign markets, the bank maintains its stability. During the period under review, there is an active process of forming its own liabilities at the expense of domestic savings of Russians and the concentration of formed loan portfolios within the country. Thus, we have shown that the external sanctions imposed on the activities of this bank outside the Russian Federation had a limited effect, and the activities of one of the flagships of the domestic banking sector adapted to the sanctions pressure.
