Rural-urban migration is traditionally regarded as a natural global process of urbanization. In recent decades, this process has been intensifying under the influence of accelerated globalization, growing international and national markets, resulting in socio-economic transformations in rural communities. The article touches the problem of the outflow of the population from peripheral municipalities to intraregional cities. The inflow of the population is analyzed on the example of municipalities of the Central group districts of Krasnoyarsk Territory. Possible reasons and consequences of such population migration are described. The problem of inconsistency between economic and demographic development at intraregional level has been identified. Measures to preserve and attract population to small municipalities are proposed.
