The article is devoted to the consideration of the legal and organizational aspects of providing medical care to convicts in places of deprivation of liberty. The analysis of national legislation and international standards examines the guarantees of the right to medical care for persons sentenced to imprisonment. It is also important to organize the structure of medical care in correctional institutions, which include primary, specialized, inpatient and emergency care, as well as programs to combat socially significant diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, and hepatitis. Key problems of penitentiary medicine play a special role: staff shortages, limited access to modern treatment methods, insufficient funding, and criticism from human rights organizations. The article discusses the main problems and difficulties faced by convicts in obtaining medical care. The article also touches on the impact of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights on the Russian system of medical care for prisoners and current issues after the termination of the jurisdiction of the ECHR. The purpose of this work is to analyze legal documents and international legal acts that operate on the territory of the Russian Federation, which contain rules and regulations for providing medical care to persons sentenced to imprisonment.
