The paper considers the main stages in the history of the Omsk State Agrarian University named after P.A. Stolypin, shows the scientific contribution of the university to the formation and development of agricultural education and agricultural science in the West Siberian Region. Omsk Agricultural University has more than 100 years of history behind it, it emerged as the Omsk Agricultural Institute in 1918, during the difficult time of the Civil War, first as a private university, and took place thanks to the enthusiasm of the Omsk public and the support of the local administration. In the 1920s-1930s the university has withstood many transformations and reorganizations, but still managed to survive, strengthen its material base and scientific potential and provide scientific support for the development of the agricultural industry in the region. During the Great Patriotic War, the university “fought” with the enemy along with the whole country, and after the war it ensured the restoration of agriculture, participated in the upsurge of virgin lands, and in the 1960s-1980s contributed to the economic recovery of the Omsk Region. In the difficult 1990s Omsk Agricultural Institute not only survived, but also acquired a new status of "university". Currently, the university is one of the leading agricultural universities in the country, a center for fundamental and applied scientific research, providing training for qualified personnel, contributing to the socio-economic, environmental, and innovative development of the region.
