The article highlights the nature of values and their role in modern society, reveals the integrative function of values as a phenomenon underlying social relations and integrating individuals in different social communities. By the typology of values, the author shows the subject-object and inter-subject nature of values as relations between people regarding particular objects and their features. In this context, the article presents detailed consideration of different interpretations of values combining subjective and supra-individual features. Modern axiological concepts interpret values as supra-individual types of relationships which are not only conscious but also existentially felt by individuals. Values, uniting meaningful and due, goals and means, real and ideal, comprise ideal samples of social existence, hence there is the role of values as normative regulators of social relations and social practices. Relativization of values, the «value chaos» in modern society cause the loss of basics of national culture and social destabilization. Based on the analysis of the essence and role of values, the author proposes to consider the world and "daily life" of an individual as the basis of the primary reality «as it should be». Discovery of value meaning of things becomes possible through return to daily life and fundamentals of human existence in the world.
