Descriptive analysis of interregional trade of the Russian Federation

The article proves the importance and necessity of studying the processes of interregional trade based on detailed official statistics. The existing data sources and their aggregation tools are described. A descriptive analysis of the matrices of interregional trade of the Russian Federation formed for the period of 2009-2016 is given. The total indicators of import and export are normalized by the value of the gross regional product. Estimates of intensity of growth/decrease of trade turnover between separate regions of the country for the studied period are given. The analysis showed that the volumes of import and export are largely determined by the remoteness of regions from the centers of agglomerations, the length, geographical location, as well as the structure of their economies. The presented material is accompanied by an extensive graphical visualization of regional statistical data.
