The article describes the appearance of the term «suicide», the examples of definitions of suicide and the criteria to define the term «suicide» and distinguish it from other «parasuicidal» activity. These criteria are voluntary, selfsupport, consciousness, intention, sufficiency, post hoc (the time factor).
