Having analyzed the results of physiological studies of normal children and adolescents, patients with congenital growth retardation of one of the limbs and achondroplasia before and after surgical lengthening of the lower limb segments according to Ilizarov, the authors came to the conclusion about the existence of the optimal longitudinal sizes of the limbs, which were different from the definitive sizes in normal subjects of the same age. The formula was proposed to calculate the proper optimal length of the leg, which depended on its initial sizes (Ld = 0,57*Li +19).
