The article investigates texts of popular Russian tabloid «Komsomolskaya Pravda», discusses how myths and stereotypes of mass consciousness in terms of masscultural strategies conventionally designated as «optimism» and «pessimism» are implemented. In the context of the above mentioned concepts one of the basic existential themes - the theme of death is analyzed, as well as newspaper and magazine version of so-called apocalyptic fiction, etc. The conclusion is that these opposing categories successfully synthesized by the «technologists of discourses» and serve to maintain the power of ideological «senses». The article notes that the regulators of the massive information flows construct them largely unconsciously, following the «public taste» prevailing in the society. Such strategies are undoubtedly used to create the most «masscultural» type of newspaper periodicals and TV content to maintain the «aura» of some optimism as a stabilizing deterrent and regulating the growth of mass, mostly irrational, fears.
