Bioarchaeological approaches to the studies of paleoanthropological remainsfrom Classical period necropoleis give an insight into the social structure of society. Thisstudy focused on human fossil remains from two vaults of the Roman period excavated bythe Phanagorian expedition in 2013. The minimum number of individuals identified, theirsex and age characteristics, description of health status, physical activity, and injuries areused to characterize the groups from the vaults. At least 74 individuals were buried in onevault (No. 191); the other (No. 195) contained at least 16 individuals. The data obtaineddo not make it possible to characterize these groups as family burials. There is evidencethat the individuals buried in the excavated vaults belonged to a special social group witha high status in society.
