Research fellows of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (IAET SB RAS) and the Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (IPGG SB RAS) have tested newly developed hardware of the IPGG SB RAS, namely magnetometric probe mounted on quadcopter (unmanned aerial vehicle), at the archaeological sites of the Novosibirsk region. To determine the capabilities of the new equipment, operations were carried out at heterogeneous monuments (burial grounds and burial mounds, ancient settlements), where ground magnetic survey had been performed before. The article explores the methodological features of the studies and the results of comparison of aerial and ground survey data. It also assesses the prospects for the use of new technologies to explore archaeological sites.
