Experience of optimization of the treatment of chronic periodontitis of the molar by the method of resection of the roots top

The article describes that one of the methods for preserving molars when conservative therapy is not possible can be resection of the root tips. It is shown that on the basis of the Department of Surgical Dentistry of ASMI, operations are performed for resection of the apex of the buccal roots of the first and second molars of the upper jaw and the roots of the first and second molars of the lower jaw. The main indication for surgery is the absence of a therapeutic effect in the conservative trea tment of chronic periodontitis. During this period, 56 patients aged 22 to 64 years were operated on with a diagnosis of chronic periodontitis. Before surgery, all patients underwent computed tomography. According to computed tomography: the length of the roots, the projection and size of the pathological focus, the thickness of the bone from the vestibular side, the location of the roots and the pathological focus in relation to the ma xillary sinuses and the mandibular nerve were studied. In all 54 cases, complete restoration of bone tissue at the site of the removed pathological process was noted. The results obtained give grounds to conclude that this meth od should take a certain place among other methods of treating chronic periodontitis.
