The article reveals such a responsible and many-sided activity of the internal affairs bodies as human resources management. The author pays particular attention to the problems of police recruitment, showing that the system of personnel management takes into account the need to keep the balance between the interests of employees, on the one hand, and the law enforcement bodies in general, on the other hand. The author analyzes peculiarities of the HR management in the police during several periods of the Russian history (the USSR, Russia of the 1990-s, the early XXI century) and concludes that the current situation in the society determines toughening of requirements to police officers.
