The article discusses the organization of self-guided work in the university library as a set of conditions that provide the interaction of users with the information environment. It describes the definitions and components of the information educational environment of the library, analyzes the results of an opinion study among its readers. The formation of information competence is treated as a purposeful level system of training of library users: student, master student / graduate student and teacher.
