For the first time in Russian historiography, the article reveals an unknown aspect of the ministry of a navy chaplain: the organization of pilgrimage trips for sailors. This activity is unique, since among the officers, only the navy chaplain sought to organize such events for the sailors. The author identifies two directions of travel: local, aimed at visiting shrines and attractions located near the base, and distant, involving visits to attractions located on the territory of foreign states or remote lands of the Russian Empire. The article reveals the ship’s specificity for organizing pilgrimage trips.
