The paper analyzes the inequality of socio-economic development of the regions of the Southern Federal district of Russia. The subject of the study is the methods of assessing the level of socio-economic development of the region. The object of the study is the regions of the Southern Federal district of Russia. Distinctive features of the socio-economic development of Russian regions contribute to changing sensitivity of their social, economic potential to the influence of various factors of innovative, social and economic development of the territory. The authors conclude that it is necessary to develop an organizational and economic mechanism of integration of the regions of the Southern Federal district of Russia and propose its theoretical model. The monitoring component of the proposed theoretical model of organizational and economic mechanism of integration of regions of Southern Federal district provides the receiving of information about the social, economic, innovative status of the regions, the influence of social, infrastructural and economic decisions on the dynamics of interregional integration processes and adjustment of the activities of the authorities to improve the competitiveness of the regions and the leveling of the differentiation of their socio-economic development.
