Hypertension (HD) is the leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In assessing the total cardiovascular risk in hypertension, the degree of increase in blood pressure (BP), risk factors for complications of hypertension, signs of damage to target organs and associated clinical conditions have prognostic significance. The likelihood of cardiovascular complications increases not only at high, but also at low values of blood pressure. Orthostatic hypotension is associated with higher mortality and higher rates of cardiovascular events. An excessive decrease in systolic (SBP) and diastolic pressure (DBP) contributes to the progression of cognitive impairment in elderly patients with hypertension. Orthostatic hypotension is more often detected in the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR), against the background of atherosclerosis of the arteries of the lower extremities.
