The paper considers the main features and peculiarities of money circulation in the Russian Far East during the Civil War (1918-1922) and foreign military intervention in the region. The information on main issuers and money emissions of this period of history is disclosed, taking into account the regional aspect. The main factors influencing local money circulation are indicated, such as: predominant paper money turnover, a large number of monetary surrogates, low turnover of metal coins, counterfeiting, the presence of currency profiteers and foreign monetary expansion. The attention is drawn to the attempts of Japan, using the situation in the region and pursuing its political and economic goals, to introduce its own special banknotes into the economy of the Far East in order to displace the local currency and take control of the local market.
