Tracking of the ecological status of fresh surface and groundwater using dedicated water monitoring systems for making managerial decisions aimed at reduction of oil production induced environmental impact of Tatneft’s operating oil fields is of current importance. The placement of observation points within the existing water monitoring network has been optimized to consider the location of license (oil production) area boundaries, the location and parameters of oil production facilities; the location of domestic water intakes and groundwater transit routes; the location of sanitary protection zone boundaries and water conservation zones. Analysis of flow behavior and chemical status of ground and surface water based on water monitoring allows fast response to mitigate adverse effects of oil production, plan preventive and remedial operations for oilfield facilities to eliminate pollution. Water monitoring information system is used to identify environmental site restrictions while planning well drilling, new construction or implementation of different production technology. The results of the inventory of water bodies serve to identify oil field structures that require special attention when planning environmental protection measures at the existing stock of oil field structures, and are used to determine zones of environmental restrictions when planning drilling, new construction or changes in production technology.
