The paper shows the evolution of social and cultural practices of increasing reading initiative starting from special book edition, recommended reference lists, conversations, self-education groups, themed nights, excursions, reading books aloud followed by discussions and ending with lectures, seminars and workshops based on developed strategies and techniques of reading activity as well as gaming and Internet technologies represented by book blogging, interactive quests, literary and library portals and communities with a diverse content. These and other social and cultural practices provoke debates and discussions on literary and book issues, stimulate communication about books and reading, and arouse interest in certain works.
