The article examines the main trends in the international energy market, taking into account modern development trends and challenges of coronavirus infection. The market situation is characterized by serious fluctuations in energy prices, which is associated with the current epidemiological situation and the influence of digitalization processes, which also affect the level of demand for environmentally friendly products. The state of the energy market on a global scale determines the energy policy of individual states and the strategy of their socio-economic development. The authors paid special attention to the analysis of the budgets of the countries participating in the international market in terms of R&D in the field of low-carbon energy, as well as the trends in the policies of countries in the field of low-carbon energy. The statistical analysis of the demand for energy resources, the amount of energy consumption based on renewable energy sources and the amount of research and development work made it possible to state that the existing instruments for the recovery of the energy sector require adjustments in terms of a thorough analysis of macroeconomic threats and an assessment of their impact on the most important sectors and branches of the economy. As a result, the countries of the world were grouped according to the level of financing of activities aimed at the development of low-carbon energy, and a mechanism for adjusting the current energy policy of the state was proposed to ensure strategic national development priorities.
