The increasing actualization in the world practice of the problem of search and research of methods and ways to improve the system of management activities in the field of sports of higher achievements is shown. The main tendencies in the sphere of sports management are described and possible ways of reorganization of management system in the sports sphere are designated. The most important directions in development of sports management in the field of sports of the highest achievements, in isolation from mass sports on the basis of experience of foreign countries are revealed. The existing models of management in the sports sphere in France, Italy, Russia, the stages of their development and the specifics of each of them are analyzed. The article describes the need to implement comprehensive programs and individual measures aimed at the implementation of the national strategy for the development of physical culture and sports, as well as increasing the contribution of the sports industry to the socio-economic development of the country.
