The article describes the results of the study of adaptation to the school of fifth graders with different levels of school performance. The theoretical basis for the understanding of adaptation to the school of younger adolescents were the ideas of J. Wellborn and J. Conner, who identified the conditions that contribute to the success of children in school. As a result of the study, it was found that younger adolescents with different levels of performance do have distinctive characteristics in their adaptation to school. It was found that adolescents with higher levels of achievement have less confidence in their ability to achieve school success, less support from adults than students with lower levels of achievement.
