Features of the activity of the schools of literacy of the Tauride Diocese in the late XIX — early XX centuries

The article presents an overview of the policy of the government agencies and the Holy Synod, regional authorities and diocesan administration, which was carried out in relation to one of the oldest types of educational institutions — literacy schools, which provided an opportunity for the population to receive elementary education in the late XIX — early XX centuries on the specific example of the Tauride Diocese. In the frame of the research, the analysis of legal documentation, official reports, publications in the periodicals was carried out and on their basis the following stages of the development of literacy schools and the peculiarities of the activities of such educational institutions in the Tauride diocese in the late XIX — early XX centuries were identified.
