The features of democratic opposition parties in modern Russia

Based on the revival of Russian politics because of the upcoming presidential elections of the Russian Federation and the activities of the 7th State Duma of the Russian Federation, the study discusses the current status of democratic opposition parties in this country. Using the comparative analysis, institutional and system approaches, the author makes two main conclusions. Firstly, the main factors determining the specific features of the democratic opposition parties in Russia are a hybrid political regime (combining democratic and authoritarian elements and practices) and the passive nature of Russian political culture. Secondly, the key characteristics of the above-mentioned parties include the political apathy, the focus on deriving material benefits, the tendency to compromise with the government.
