This article addresses the issues of currency circulation in the ghettos created by the Nazi regime of the Third Reich in occupied territories during World War II (1939-1945). In these isolated areas, the Nazis confined the Jewish population, whom they deemed racially inferior and subject to extermination. The authors examine the financial aspects of the functioning of specific ghettos within the Third Reich, focusing on the replacement of currency with the ghetto’s own money, the production features, pictorial characteristics, and methods of obtaining. Particular attention is given to two ghettos located in the territories of Poland and Czechoslovakia, namely Litzmannstadt and Theresienstadt. When writing the article, the authors relied on the generally recognized principles of historical science: objectivity and historicism, the comparative method, analysis of secondary data and historical sources were used as the main ones.
