The features of the complex relations between the Soviet authorities and the famous Soviet physicist A.D. Sakharov, who made a huge contribution to strengthening the defense capability of the USSR, for which he was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor three times in a relatively short time. The reason for the complication of relations was the change in the academician's views on the future of the country, democracy, his pacifist moods, which did not coincide with the official position. Having already become one of the main dissidents in the USSR, Sakharov was administratively exiled to the city of Gorky. The features of his confrontation with the authorities and the subsequent actual rehabilitation during the years of Gorbachev's "perestroika" are shown.
