The article is devoted to the study of the characteristics of the modern Russianmedia market. This will make it possible to form a holistic view of the conditionsand possibilities for the media enter prises functioning in the information space globalization. The author highlighted the distinctive properties of media economics, as a specific industry, systematized its main characteristics. The functions of the media were also reviewed, and the consumer and advertising market was analyzed as the main source of income for media enterprises.
