We evaluated the homeostatic indicators of blood plasma as well as kidney function in rats under the oxidative stress, which was induced by the prolonged administration of glucocorticoids. The study of kidney function was performed by the comparative analysis of background urine sample, obtained from the animals on the course of 6-8 hours of observations and after 5% of water administration. We then checked the urine and blood plasma for the osmolarity, the sodium concentration and potassium ions, the concentration of urea and creatinine. Glucocorticoid-induced oxidative stress disrupts the hydro- and iono -uretic functions of the kidneys. Disruption is manifested in a decrease in the glomerular filtration rate, relative reabsorption of the fluid, a decrease in the excretion of urea and sodium and potassium ions, and in the absence of a pronounced reaction to a 5% of water administration. Disturbance of the functional activity of the kidneys in rats with prolonged use of glucocorticoids leads to hyperkalemia, as well as to an increase of the concentration of creatinia and urea in the blood plasma.
