The paper is devoted to identifying and substantiating the features of Russian holdings of ferrous metallurgy as integrated industrial economic systems. The object of the research was the holdings of ferrous metallurgy, which have a special industry specificity. The relevance of the presented research lies in the fact that today large industrial holdings remain one of the backbone and strategically important sectors of the Russian economy. The systematic approach made it possible to study industrial holdings as a set of complex, heterogeneous and dynamic components of ferrous metallurgy as a backbone branch of the national economy. The study of corporate holding entities from the standpoint of the process approach made it possible to analyze the integration processes in time dynamics, considering the history of cooperation in ferrous metallurgy. The strategic approach is predetermined by the unity of the goal of the formation and functioning of holdings. The paper presents the history of the development of cooperation in ferrous metallurgy, as well as identifies some basic principles of integration processes in the industry. Two main approaches to the management of holdings, predetermined by the set goals, are considered: centralized and decentralized.
