Features and treatment of recurrent COVID-19 pneumonia in patients with diabetes mellitus

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious, socially significant disease characterized by higher mortality rates among patients compared to normoglycemic individuals1. A certain contribution to the mortality of patients with DM is made by acute and chronic infectious diseases. It is well known that chronic hyperglycemia contributes to the development and maintenance of the infectious process. The risk of pneumonia is almost three times higher in patients with type 1 diabetes and 58% higher in patients with type 2 diabetes.
