Thyroid hormones regulate the development and metabolism of various organs and systems. The cardiovascular system is one of the main targets of the action of thyroid hormones. Minimal changes in thyroid hormone levels (even within their normal range) are associated with an increased risk of CVD. Thus, there is a theoretical possibility that the administration of thyroid hormones to patients with CVD may have a positive effect on the prognosis of the disease.
