The article considers the dynamics of the gross regional product (GRP) of Krasnodar Krai for the period 2020-2022, calculates water capacity indicators, and performs a comparative analysis of the water capacity indicators of the GRP of Krasnodar Krai and the GDP of the Russian Federation. The authors identified the factors that determine the specifics of regional water use. A comparative analysis of the water capacity of the GDP of the Russian Federation and the GRP of Krasnodar Krai from 2020 to 2022 allows us to conclude that there are opposite trends: the water capacity of the GDP of the Russian Federation demonstrates growth, increasing from 0.68 m3 / thousand rubles to 0.71 m3 / thousand rubles (+ 0.03 m3 / thousand rubles), while a similar indicator of the GRP of Krasnodar Krai decreases from 2.70 m3 / thousand rubles to 2.30 m3 / thousand rubles (- 0.40 m3 / thousand rubles). It should also be noted that throughout the observation period, the water capacity indicators of the economy of the analyzed constituent entity of the Russian Federation significantly exceed similar indicators of the Russian economy as a whole. In order to improve the efficiency of using the region’s water resource potential, the authors propose to supplement the current mechanisms for providing state support for agricultural production with criteria reflecting the water management efficiency of agricultural producers applying for subsidies from the budget of the Krasnodar Territory; to develop a mechanism for state co-financing of the implementation of long-term projects related to the modernization of water supply and sanitation networks and aimed at reducing the loss of water resources during transportation. The results of the study can be used by government bodies of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in managing water management activities.
