Characteristics of young people in acute suicidal crisis with and without non-suicidal self-harm and suicide attempts

Non-suicidal self-harm (NSSH) and suicidal thoughts are a major medical problem, as they are associated with suicide risk. Aim: The aim of the research is to study psychological characteristics of suicidal patients in acute psychological crisis who have or don’t have an experience of suicide attempts and practicing or not practicing NSSH. Participants: One hundred forty six patients participated in the study: 105 females (72%) and 41 males, aged 16-48 (mean age 23.1±5.9). Fifty nine patients didn’t practice NSSH, 87 patients had such an experience. Seventy three patients (50%) had suicide attempts in the past, 25 of them had multiple attempts. Instruments: Following instruments were used: Self-Compassion Scale, Future Self Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Experience in Close Relationships - Revised, Past Positive and Past Negative scales from Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory, Slaney’s Almost Perfect Scale, Beck Hopelessness Scale, Psychache Scale...
