The article is devoted to the problem of the state-legal ethnic-confessional adjustment of relations, which were developing in the British India from the second half of the 19th century till the first half of 20th century. The ethnic and religious factors influence on the development of national liberation movement in India and theirs ascendancy over the policy of the British colonial authorities is considered under the modern methodological and ideological positions.
