The article deals with the problem of formation of listening skills in students of an economic department. The analysis of modern scientifi c works devoted to the issues of teaching listening in a non-linguistic university is carried out. The author identifi es the most important listening skills that need to be improved in the process of developing professional and communicative foreign-language competencies of a specialist. The article presents a model of teaching listening to students of an economic university on the basis of problem tasks, consisting of target, theoretical, technological and evaluation blocks. The author gives examples of exercises designed to develop listening skills. Special attention is paid to the evaluation criteria and pedagogical conditions for ensuring eff ective training of students in listening. The author comes to the conclusion that the presented methodology for the development of listening skills can be used not only in classroom and extracurricular classes with specialists in economics, but also in other non-linguistic universities.
