Ovariohysterectomy features in decorative rats

The most common indications for ovariohysterectomy, peculiarities of anesthesia and the technique of this operation in decorative rats were studied. The objects of the study were 27 decorative rats subjected to ovariohysterectomy, females, aged from 3 to 31 months. The animals were kept as pets by private owners in the city of Krasnoyarsk. The studies were conducted using clinical and histological methods. During the study it was revealed that the most frequent indication for ovariohysterectomy was bleeding from the genitals. The animals of this group accounted for 43 % of the participants in the study. The age range of the group was from 16 to 31 months. Histological examination of postoperative material revealed that atrophic and dystrophic processes in the uterine lining and ovaries and polycystic ovary had beenthe causes of bleeding. The second place in terms of prevalence was taken by genitals cancer. The animals of this group accounted for 22 % of the total number of ovariohysterectomy, their age ranged from 15 to 30 months...
