Peculiarities of Finnish peace organizations' approach to NATO activities

Contemporary world politics demand global civil society’sactive participation in solving international problems. Thisarticle examines peace organizations as specific actors ofinternational relations. Major transformations of Finnish peaceorganizations as well as activists’ approach to the NATOproblematics in the period between the 1980s and present timeis analyzed on the basis of literature and interviews conducted.The approach of Finnish peace organizations partially reflectsthe dynamics of internal interaction of the peace movementand is characterized by its critical stance towards NATO. At thesame time, NATO issues are not the top priority of theseorganizations, as their primary concern is with such issues asweapons proliferation, militarism, conflict resolution andenvironmental protection.
