Pecularities of Jomon settlement complexes in Japan

This publication is devoted to studying of Jomon period settlement in Japan. There are considered main characteristics of settlements at different stages of Jomon culture. Publication analyses the main types of economic activities of Neolithic Japanese population - hunting, collecting, fishery and collecting shellfish, the primitive forms of agriculture. The structure of settlement space is considered to be connected with the duration of its using and economic activity. The features of settlements assumed to be connected with collective ritual practice.
