The article presents the research results of the current state and development prospects of the hostels, budget segment of accommodation facilities. Hostels have recently become increasingly popular among travelers, especially in schoolchildren, youth and tourists with certain financial restrictions. Hostels are unique type of collective accommodation facilities; they have come a long way in their development today. Many of them are not just budget places to stay, they provide basic and additional services, possibilities for comfortable leisure and social communication. Moreover, there are hostels with original interior design style. The authors of the article based on research data from Russian and foreign resources, indicate that, despite certain global changes caused by the past COVID-19 pandemic and metamorphoses in the international political situation in the world, this segment has managed to gain a strong foothold in the market, gain trust and consumer loyalty many Russian and foreign tourists. However, having gone through a rather difficult path of development, today in our country, due to recent legislative decisions, the owners of this business are faced with several complicated, sometimes insoluble problems. Addressing these problems and improving the legal regulation of hostels in the Russian Federation will steadily contribute to the further development of budget accommodation as one of the factors in increasing the tourist flow in the regions of our country, and therefore the successful development of regional tourism.
