The article provides a generalizing characteristic of the concept of the financial potential of the region and the basic principles of its formation. It is determined that one of the significant elements of the regional financial potential and a promising source of attracting financial and investment resources for the region is the financial potential of the population (households). The study analyzed some indicators that reflect trends in the formation and development of the financial potential of the population. The object of this study is the financial potential of households in the Murmansk region, which is a region of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. The subject of the study is the processes of formation of the financial potential of households in modern conditions of instability and uncertainty. As a result of the analysis, trends and features in the formation of the financial potential of the population of the Arctic region were identified, in conclusion, proposals for its activation were given.
