This article is devoted to the Soviet-Israeli political and economic relations analysis; Soviet- Israeli relations were strained if not broken nearly for the whole Soviet period. Although Moscow provided diplomatic and even military support (via Czechoslovakia) to Israel during its war for independence (1948-1949), by 1953 the USSR had shifted to a pro-Arab position and broke diplomatic relations with Israel within the Six-Day War (1967). From the mid-1960s till the time Gorbachev came into power, the USSR, sought for alignment with the Arab world against the United States.
