Features of the modern party system in the Republic of Belarus: parliamentary election results and forecasts

The new elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly in Belarus were held in 17th of November, 2019. In light of this event the article discusses the first stages of modern Belarus parliamentary development that started after the referendum of November 24, 1996. In addition, we have analyzed the features of the country’s party system including weak elaboration of ideological platforms, low level of trust for political parties among the electorate, lack of bright leaders, low membership numbers, etc. The article also focuses on the reasons for the predominance of at-large candidates in the lower house of parliament and its consequences. In conclusion, we have described the state of election race and provided the election forecasts.
