The turn of the 20 th century is a key stage in the prerevolutionary history of Moscow. The migration inflow in the context of all-Russian urbanization, economic growth and development of municipal governments generated many new challenges for a city. The most important of them was a housing problem. The lodging houses became widespread in Moscow. In the context of construction market development a new stage in history of church house and grounds began. The establishment and spreading of the rented houses on the parish and monastic lands had some specific features. The article carries out a detailed analysis of the situation in the city by study of archival documents, for the first time introduced into the scientific use.
