Aim: to define the features of lipid peroxidation processes in short-distance skaters. We studied the features of lipid peroxidation in men and women skaters aged 18-23, certified Candidates for Master of Sport, Masters of Sport, Merited Masters of Sport and Masters of Sport, International Class, in different periods of the training cycle. In groups of men and women short-distance skaters the content of lipid peroxidation (LPO) in saliva is higher than the content observed in the control group, and antioxidant system (AOS) indices are lower than the ones in the control group. The content of LPO products and AOS indices were different for men and women groups. Thus, in average, the LPO content was higher in men, meanwhile the AOS indices were higher in women. Changes in the LPO content and the AOS indices in the groups of men and women short-distance skaters depended on the training period. Loads in the modern sport are the trigger for increased production of reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) and, consequently, LPO activation. Changes in the LPO-AOS system observed in women skaters were more beneficial than ones in men.
