In modern economy conditions the staff potential of an organization is its main competitive advantage, and the problems of training and qualification development of the staff are becoming more and more actual. Competencies are the most effective tool in the solution of the tasks of developing the organization's staff potential. The competency model defines the criterions of staff selection in according to the strategy of organization that allows to attract the staff whose potential mostly meets qualitative and quantitative needs of organization. The presence of the clear criterions of estimation increases the validity of the staff decisions made by the top management, which reduces the risk of errors when making appointments. Competencies allow to estimate the level of job adequacy and to determine the priorities in staff development. This article considers the classification of competencies, stages of competency management, modern teaching methods and forms of staff training. Features of staff competencies management for different categories of workers are defined.
