The article analyzes S.V. Rachmaninov's romance “Don't Sing, Beauty, in front of me” on A.S. Pushkin's poems from the point of view of the specifics of vocal embodiment and implementation of national (oriental) coloring. The innovative approach of the composer is considered, where oriental motifs serve not only to create atmosphere, but also as a means of deep psychological characterization, revealing the inner conflict of the lyrical hero. The peculiarities of the vocal part, which combines cantilena and recitation, its dramatic development and the complex, equal role of the piano part in creating the imagery and conveying the oriental themes are highlighted. The importance of ensemble interaction for adequate interpretation of the work is emphasized.
