The article discusses the features of reviving of the practice of leaving for seasonal work in the form of return labour migration on the example of the Republic of Buryatia in the 1990s. We have analyzed various aspects of leaving for seasonal work, identified the similarities that were characteristic of the country of the 1990s as a whole and associated with the decline in living standards of the population as a result of the transition from a planned economy to an economy with elements of market relations. That was one of the reasons of unemployment and an increase in the flow of labour migration in Russia. We also have analyzed the regional specificity of the process of reviving the practice of leaving for seasonal work in the Republic of Buryatia, as well as the most common areas of labour activity among return labour migrants of Buryatia, and the main areas of labour migration within the republic by regions and sectors of the economy. The article is based on the statistical data characterizing internal labour migration in the Republic of Buryatia for the 90s of the 20th century.
